Depression - Treating Mood Blocks to Happiness:By VIVE
                                                Health!
                                                 Happiness
                                                is a combination of pleasure, fulfilment and meaning;
and distinctly: freedom from anxiety and depression.

Up to 1 in 3 of our population will experience a mood
disorder at least once during our lives, which is a
major concern for happiness. Anxiety affects approximately
                                                25% of us, depression 15%..

There are several causes of these chemical imbalances,
                                                including: .

 Traumatic early life experiences

 Role modelling an anxious parent

Life situations (social or financial problems)

 Blood sugar imbalances, mainly hypoglycemia

 Unhelpful thinking patterns and schemas

Stimulant or drug use (including alcohol, caffeine and
                                                marijuana)

 Sleep deprivation and low melatonin

Food allergies and intolerances (salicylates, amines,
MSG, sulphites, additives, wheat, gluten and dairy being
                                                the most common)

 Over or under-active thyroid

 Testosterone dominance or deficiency

 Oestrogen dominance or deficiency

Nutritional deficiency (particularly omega 3 essential
                                                fatty acids)

 Adrenal fatigue

 Insufficient methylation

 Excess histamine

 Pyroluria

 Porphyria

Infections, including glandular fever viruses, yeast
                                                overgrowth and parasites

 Inflammation

 Toxicity (chemicals, heavy metals)

 Lack of exercise

 Lack of dietary protein

 Genetic susceptibility

It is generally accepted that depression is mediated
by an imbalance of chemicals in the brain (neurotransmitters),
such as serotonin, dopamine, endorphins, acetylcholine
and GABA. Orthodox treatment of depression is generally
                                                aimed at modulating these pathways.

Most people experience a combination of these factors.
The best recommendation is to consult a practitioner
who can identify the individual contributing factors
so that you can apply accurate solutions.

However, it may be helpful to try basic self-support.

 1. Eat enough protein. Aim for a palm size of protein
at each meal (meat, fish, fowl, legumes, tofu or eggs),
or supplement with a protein shake.
 2. Eat low glycemic carbohydrates, such as sweet potato,
basmatirice, apples and wholegrainbreads and crackers.
Small amounts with 1-2 meals per day can help to release
serotonin and keep blood sugar balanced.
 3. Cut out sugar, caffeine, alcohol, and other drugs
that are not prescribed by a medical doctor. Some people
                                                require a supported withdrawal process.
 4. Hydrate - with water and herbal teas. Ditch the stimulants
                                                and sugar.
 5. Exercise regularly - every day is ideal.
 6. Take omega 3 fish oil (if not allergic). This is
required for nerve structures and neurotransmitter balance,
and almost everyone requires supplementation for optimal
                                                neural function and mood.
 7. Counselling. Talking not only helps you to vent confidentially,
but it is an opportunity to identify issues and gain
skills to resolve them. You can improve your coping
skills for example with cognitive behaviouraltherapy,
through a counselor or with a good guide like Change
                                                Your Thinking, by Sarah Engelmann.
 8. Consult your complementary practitioner for evidence

" If the feelings run deeper, they may be linked to
trauma and loss, which can shape our conditioned patterns
and core beliefs (schemas) about the world. Addressing

3 Steps For A Stress Free Nights Sleep: by Sue Lester.
    1.
At the End Of Your Working Day: Just
before shutting down your PC, plan out your next day,
transferring any unfinished tasks across. Prioritise
the top 3, and allocate specific time slots to complete
them. Be realistic about what you can achieve, and either
delegate or put excess task on another day. Tidy your
desk so the next day you get a sense of being in control
when you come in. This applies to both business and
                                                home management.
 2. At the End of Your Day:

Spend the last half hour before bed unwinding, whether
listening to relaxing music, cuddling with your partner,
pottering around etc. Avoid stimulation like TV, reading,
caffeine, alcohol. If you need to, dump down all the
worries of the day into at least 3 pages of continuous
writing, rip it up with great satisfaction, then do
your unwinding bedtime routine. As you get into bed,
set your intention for the next day e.g. productive,
signing up a new client at the end of the meeting, have
fun with the kids etc, and ask for all flashes of inspiration
to assist in this to come after your alarm goes off
(NOT 'when I wake up' )
 3. If You Wake During The Night:
 Note
any flashes of inspiration on a notebook by your bed
and tell yourself you will work on that (never 'worry
about that' ) during business hours. Focus on relaxing
breathing, in for a count of 3 (or 4) and out for count
of 6 (or 8). If your mind wanders, bring it gently back
to focussing on your breathing until you sleep again.
If you keep having lots of churning thoughts, get out
of bed and write them all down, continuously writing
until you have it all out, you're tired, cold and more
than ready to get back into bed to sleep. Use the relaxing
breathing to focus on settling into a deep, restful
                                                sleep.
 4. Children

Children need a wind-down routine too, to ensure they
get all the sleeping and growing time they need to thrive.
Set a regular bed time and a routine which transitions
them from playtime to bedtime. Tidying up, cleaning
teeth, reading a story etc, before they get overtired
and cranky, works best. When they learn that bedtime
is quality time with you, there will be less fuss. If
you have an early riser, put up dark curtains to block

Cleanse Your Impurities: with Alkaline Water!    Our
bodies were designed to be healthy, energetic and have
the ability to heal itself in the correct environment.
Instead we are overweight, disease-prone and tired.
                                                Why?
Dr Robert O. Young author of "The pH Miracle" simply
states that the over-acidification of the body is the
single underlying cause of all disease. Dr. Young has
found that when the body is in healthy alkaline balance,
                                                germs are unable to survive.

Optimal health starts with maintaining the right acid-alkaline
balance. If your body's pH becomes too acidic, you may
experience fatigue, low energy levels, poor digestion,
excess weight and even more serious conditions. This
is often due to the foods we eat, lack of exercise,
stress and the body not eliminating acids properly.
The correct acid-alkaline balance starts with proper
nutrition. This includes eating more alkaline forming
foods and drinking plenty of alkaline water.

 Alkaline Water

The most important thing you must learn is to hydrate
the body with alkaline water. Food cravings are often
the body's cry for water. A thirst for water will begin
as one begins to hydrate with water.

A diet high in acid foods such as meat, dairy grains,
high sugar fruits and bread, causes acid wastes to build
up in the body. When acid wastes enter our blood stream,
the blood system will attempt to dispose of these wastes
in liquid form through the lungs or the kidneys. If
there are too many wastes to handle, they are deposited
in various organ systems like the heart, pancreas, liver,
                                                colon, and other locations.

The breakdown of this disposal process of acid waste
could also be called "the aging process". To slow down
and reverse this process, one must begin by removing
this over-acidification of the blood and tissues by
including liberal amounts of alkaline water in the diet.
Alkaline water will neutralise harmful stored acid wastes
and gently remove them from the tissues.

Water is the most essential element in establishing
and maintaining the correct acid-alkaline balance. The
quality of the water is just as important as how much
of it you drink, as it must be capable of preventing
toxins from accumulating and damaging bodily cells.
It also transports minerals and nutrients that are necessary
for cell metabolism, and remove substances that can
damage the cell. Only alkaline water can help neutralise
acid and allow your body to remove them.

Principal physiotherapist, Dianne Hermans has been treating
for over 20 years and loves nothing more than to see
her patients living and moving pain free. Dianne has
presented chronic pain case studies at national and
international conferences and has educated some of Australia's
leading sports medicine teams on the application of
                                                neuromagnetics.

This is not a new therapy, neuromagnetics has been around
since the 1990's with thousands of patients successfully
                                                treated and many related
research articles published in medical journals.

In 1999, Channel Nine's Good Medicine travelled to the
Vanderbilt Medical University, Centre for Neuromagnetics
in Nashville, Tennessee to interview the pioneer of
this work, neurologist, Dr Robert Holcomb MD, PhD. But
soon after, the inventor got caught up in legal proceedings
over patent ownership, eventually sent bankrupt and
was forced to leave his life's work. You can still see
                                                the original Good
                                                Medicine feature online here.

Now Dianne Hermans and her husband, James have advanced
this original research and chronic pain sufferers are
experiencing pain free living better than ever before.

"So why haven't I heard of neuromagnetics before"? You
                                                might ask.

The gatekeepers of chronic pain sufferers are doctors
and sadly, most have simply never heard of it. The fact
is, unless a treatment involves drug therapy or surgery
it's hardly going to get on most doctors' radar. Doctors
are pressed for time and have little interest in new
therapies outside of drugs and surgery.

Don't misunderstand us, we have tremendous respect for
doctors but even if there were a better way, there are
plenty of vested interests to keep the status quo and
deny patients from safe, inexpensive and effective treatments.
And let's face it, if the health system had all the
answers, your pain would not be persistent.

                                                Madison.   Candida
is a type of yeast that is normally found in low levels
as part of the regular flora of the skin, intestines,
mouth and vagina. It naturally lives in damp areas of
the body and can only cause a problem when there is
an overgrowth. An increase of Candida in the body is
known as a yeast infection, fungus overgrowth or Candidiasis.

Candida in the intestines can manifest itself both internally
and externally. This cause's symptoms such as stomach

Candida overgrowth is a signal to you that your body

 Diet For Strength
When the human body is weakened it is vulnerable to
attack. Keeping your PH levels in balance, and your
immune system high is how you can maintain a strong
body that can resist attack from any foreign organism.
Foods that have the characteristics of being high in
sugar /carbohydrates and low in minerals contribute
to an increase of acidity, mould and fungus/Candida
in the body. They therefore add to the toxicity of the
body that weakens your immune system and causes various
                                                health issues.

Sugars and refined carbohydrates are poison to your
body. They directly feed the imbalance of Candida and
the growth of mold and fungus. These processed foods
are foreign to the natural body and should be completely
avoided. The addictive cycle of sugar and carbohydrates
is usually the 'false signal' of sugar cravings as a
result of the bodies imbalance. Think nature and give
your body what it truly needs not what it has been habituated
to crave. Weak foods create a weak body. Organic natural
and super foods rich in minerals, antioxidants and nutrients
                                                create a strong body.

Probiotic cultures are excellent for replenishing gut
and intestinal flora by putting the good bacteria back
into your system. Kefir is not pasteurised, therefore,
after it is cultured, it contains the best probiotic
cultures of any dairy product. Supplements of live probiotics
are also available and can be taken daily on an empty
stomach for healthy gut bacteria replenishment.

Coconut Oil for Balance and Health

Internally. Many people experience an immediate
relief from the symptoms of Candida by introducing coconut
oil into their diet. The Medium Chain Fatty Acids (MCFA's)
in coconut oil have potent antiviral, antifungal and
antibacterial properties. When you ingest MCFA's they
help bring balance back into your body by enhancing
immune function and killing bad bacteria without harming
the good. Coconut oil offers deep nourishment that also
helps reduce sugar cravings. An effective and therapeutic
dose of coconut oil is 2-3 tablespoons per day.

Externally. Your skin naturally produces it's
own oil called Sebum. This oil also contains MCFA's
and can destroy bacteria, fungi and viruses from attacking
the skin. This oil however is mostly removed when we
washing our skin with soaps and shampoos, which means
we are removing our natural protection and disrupting
                                                the skins PH balanced state.

Coconut oil is an incredible skin lotion. Because of
its large quantities of MCFA's it moisturises and protects
the skin. It also fights lipid-coated viruses and bacteria
on the skin surface, and its unique molecular structure
makes it easily absorbed. See www.coconutmagic.com for
more information on how to use coconut oil and its abundant
                                                benefits.

So to say goodbye to Candida overgrowth eat food that
gives your body strength, ingest 2-3 tablespoons of
good quality, raw, cold pressed virgin coconut oil daily,
apply it to your skin, and include a good quality probiotic
supplement. Your body will return itself to a healthy
balance naturally and you will enjoy the feelings of
                                                wellbeing, energy and optimal health.

can change the course of one's life: the encounter,
in a small public garden, between Germain (Gerard Depardieu),
fifty and barely literate, and Margueritte (Gisèle Casadesus),

 1/3 cup olive oil
 300g can chickpeas, rinsed, drained
 2 garlic cloves, crushed
 1 brown onion, finely chopped
2 x 400g cans good quality diced tomatoes
1/2 cup MSG free chicken stock
75g low fat feta cheese, crumbled
1/3 cup flat-leaf parsley & coriander leaves, chopped

 1. Preheat oven to 180°C. Combine flour and salt and

 2. Heat 2 tablespoons oil in a large frying pan over
medium-high heat. Cook chicken, turning occasionally,

& parsley. Reduce heat to medium. Simmer, stirring occasionally,
for 10 minutes until thickened slightly.

 4. Pour sauce over chicken, stirring to coat. Cover
with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and sprinkle
with feta. Bake, uncovered, for 10 minutes or until
feta has melted and chicken is cooked through. Sprinkle

 Laughter
                                                is the best medicine! After
being married for 45 years, I took a careful look at
my wife one day and said,
"Darling, 45 years ago we lived in a cheap flat, drove
a cheap car, slept on a sofa bed and watched a 10-inch
black and white TV, but I got to sleep every night with
                                                a hot 18-year old girl."

"Now, we have a $1,000,000.00 home, two $100,000 cars,
a nice big bed and plasma screen TV, but I'm sleeping
with a 63-year old woman who is not a hot chick anymore."

"...It seems to me that you're not holding up your side
                                                of things."

My wife is a very reasonable woman.

She told me to go out and find a hot 18-year old chick,
and she would make sure that I would once again be living
in a cheap flat, driving a cheap car, sleeping on a
sofa bed and watching an ancient, second-hand TV.
