Are
You Iodine Deficient ? Many Australians Are!:By Nirala
Jacobi ND!
According to research, mild to moderate iodine deficiency
is wide-spread in Australia.
Recent studies show that over 40% of Victorians and
over 20% of Queenslanders are iodine deficient (measured
by urinary excretion rates)
Iodine plays a vital function in the body-it is essential
for growth and development and for the production of
thyroid hormone. Without it, we cannot make proper thyroid
hormones and suffer from fatigue, weight gain, low metabolism,
PMS, and general lack of vitality. Even worse, an iodine
deficient pregnant woman puts her fetus at high risk
for cretinism and retardation.
Other medical conditions that suggest iodine deficiency
include cystic problems: fibrocystic breasts, ovarian
cysts, thyroid cysts, etc.
Australians lead the western world in iodine deficiency.
Why is that?
1. not enough intake of iodine rich foods
2. high intake of minerals such as chloride, bromide
and fluoride which compete with iodine's function
Iodine plays a vital function in the body-it is essential
for growth and development and for the production of
thyroid hormone. Without it, we cannot make proper thyroid
hormones and suffer from fatigue, weight gain, low metabolism,
PMS, and general lack of vitality. Even worse, an iodine
deficient pregnant woman puts her fetus at high risk
for cretinism and retardation.
Other medical conditions that suggest iodine deficiency
include cystic problems: fibrocystic breasts, ovarian
cysts, thyroid cysts, etc.
Not enough intake
We used to get most of our iodine from dairy products
as dairy storage containers were routinely sterilized
with an iodine solution in between use. This practice
now uses chlorine instead of iodine. Another source
is produce grown in iodine rich soil, iodinized salt,
as well as sea vegetables such as kelp. As it turns
out, Australia's soil is very iodine-deficient and I
don't know too many of us who eat enough iodinized salt
and sea weed to make a significant difference.
Iodine, Chlorine, Bromine, and Fluorine
In the periodic table of elements these minerals all
belong into a group known as halogens. The problem is
that chlorine (think drinking water and swimming pools),
bromine (now fortified in breads, and also found in
Gatorade), and fluorine (think water fluoridation) can
compete with iodine's function. This means that the
more you're exposed to the other halogens, the less
iodine is actually available to make thyroid hormone.
This is clearly seen in iodine deficiency rates across
Australia-those states that have water fluoridation
practices in place the longest also have the highest
rates of iodine deficiency!
What you can do
" eat more sea vegetables like dulse and nori
" take a supplement providing at least 150 mcg of iodine
daily
" get tested-a 24 hour urine iodine test is relatively
inexpensive -around $50.
" Ask me the next time you come in for a visit. you
come in for a visit.

Breast
Care - A Natural Alternative( Part Three): By Annie
O'Moon-Browning from My Health Sanctuary!
5.
GENE'S: Genes are the building blocks in life. Life's
blueprint.
In 1994 the discovery of a breast-ovarian cancer susceptibility
gene, known as BRCA1 (Breast Cancer-1) led to further
research and the discovery of other breast susceptibility
genes BRCA2 and BRCA3.
The BRCA1 is present in everyone. When it functions
normally it is thought to suppress the growth of cancerous
cells in the breast.
However when it is mutated the altered gene allows uncontrolled
cell growth, which is breast/ovarian cancer.
This discovery caused many problems including the issue
of voluntary prophylactic mastectomy.
The truth of the issue here is that true hereditary
breast cancers according to the American Cancer Society
are only 5% of all breast cancers.
Much of the beast cancer epidemic is due to the increasing
exposure of women to radiation, chemical mimicking estrogens,
chemicals and pathogenic factors.
95% of women do not have the breast cancer gene mutation.
There is a lot of controversy over the BRCA1 gene.
The university of UTAH did research into this gene in
a Mormon community in southwest UTAH. This group of
people had a generational history o breast cancer.
The study was under scrutiny as these people were subjected
to the fallout form nuclear testing in the area. A total
of 26 above ground tests and 11 underground detonationsb3teenn
1951 and 1980 occurred.
The Mormons were tested for cancer and the existed an
increased incidence of cancer in all age groups61% in
al age groups.
By 1996, when the blood collection was collected for
the gene identification study, 45 years of radiation
exposure had passed.
This is plenty of time for radiation exposure to have
caused significant gene damage.
From these studies it was impossible to tell if the
BRCA1 gene had ever been present prior to the testing.
Did the Utah clan of "One-breasted" women suffer genetic
damage form radiation or were there hormone-disrupting
chemicals that commented their food, fish ad livestock?
The tests are still under question. What remains is
a fear in women's heart that if they carry this gene
they are automatically up for breast cancer and at this
stage this cannot and has not bee substantiated.
First the overwhelming majority of women the blame for
breast cancer needs to be placed elsewhere.
6] HORMONE HARMONIZES:
1] Increase Progesterone Levels.
2] Maca.
3] Balancing Blood Sugar.
4] Exercise.
5] Water.
6] Detoxification.
7] Bra's
8] The Peaceful Heart
1] Increase progesterone levels.
The use of natural progesterone is the safest way to
do this. Natural progesterone's are synthesized in a
laboratory form the Wild Yam or Soy. Progestin is different
in that it is synthetically produced progesterone like
compounds that do not exist in nature. The national
Institute of Environmental Health Sciences and the World
Health Organization as carcinogenic have listed progestins.
Symptoms of low progesterone levels include, Fluid retention,
low libido, menstrual migraines, sweet cravings, weight
gain, swollen and fibrocystic breast. Ovarian cysts,
endometriosis, fibroids and polycystic ovarian syndrome.
Progesterone application requires 2-3 months of use
before maximum benefit is experienced.
Symptoms in younger women include Breast tenderness
and lumps, severe mood swings, irritability, severe
PMS, anxiety.
While using natural progesterone products will alleviate
many Hormonal imbalance symptoms other factors such
as poor nutrition, improper sleep, lack of exercise,
compromised digestion, environments toxins all play
their part to exacerbate the problem.
The most popular effective progesterone products are
available as creams oils roll-ons.
These can be applied to the face neck chest abdomen
and the upper and inner areas of the arms and thighs.
This can be applied from day 12-26 of the cycle. This
is when the levels of progesterone area their lowest
Women with longer menstrual cycles than 28 days can
find the appropriate day by counting backwards 2 weeks
from the expected first day of the period and begin
to apply the cream then.
2] Maca.
Dr Viana Muller author of "Maca: hormone regulator for
Women and Men - The secret Royal herb of the Inca's"
has written at length of the therapeutic qualities of
the herb that grows at 14,000 feet and is the highest
cultivated vegetable in the world.
Maca promote the optimal functioning of the hypothalamus
and the pituitary thereby improving the functioning
of all the endocrine glands.
Maca is effective as it promotes the ovaries and the
other glands to produce the needed hormones.
Unlike the other phyto-estrogenic herbs and foods like
black cohash and soy isoflavones maca does not itself
contain and plant hormones. It simply balances the glands
and creates the correct hormonal balance in the body.
Due to its influence on the hormonal system and the
fact that chemicals and pesticides disrupt the hormones,
Maca that is organically grown is essential rather than
that grown under laboratory conditions.
3] Balancing blood sugar.
What we eat directly affects and influences our blood
sugar levels.
A high glycemic index food raises blood sugar rapidly
and a low glycemic index raises blood sugar slowly.
Hormones released in response to the food that we eat
control our blood sugar.
High insulin levels will increase estrogen dominance
4] Exercise.
Exercise produces endorphins the body's natural HIGH
mechanism
Exercise decrease the flow of estrogens and narrows
the window of vulnerability to breast cancer in young
women.
Exercise alleviates moodiness and depression and a 30-minute
workout daily brings s much relief as n anti depressant.
5] Water:
Dr Batmanchelidj in "your Body's Many Cries For Water"
states that dehydration through inadequate consumption
of water causes the breast to secrete a hormone called
prolactin, which at times can cause the breast to form
cancerous tissue.
Water also flushes the liver, kidneys and the breast,
The biological role of the breast is as a fluid secreting
organ IF we are dehydrated the breast is not flushed
of its natural waste products.
Inadequate amounts of water can cause a build up of
toxins in the body generally lowering vitality and preventing
the lymphatic fluids systemically in the body (the breasts
are full of lymph nodes, as any woman with PMS will
attest to!) from being cleansed.
6] Pure Plant/Herbal Detoxification:
The liver processes a large number and % of female hormones.
IF the liver is congested, sluggish and unhappy it is
unable to purify the blood stream.
The hormones will not be processed and the blood will
not be detoxified effectively.
Liver and gall bladder de-toxification help enormously
with lumpy, painful, fluid filed breasts.
7] Bra's: A Swedish study has shown a strong correlation
between breast cancer and under wire bra's and a 29%decrease
in breast cancer when women went without this garment
or wore bra's that were not under wired.
Women who went without a bra also showed a lower risk
of breast cancer as a group.
Also 90% sufferers with fibrocystic breast improved
when they quit wearing bras
Wearing camisoles or tanks tops also considerably reduces
the pain with women who have swollen and fluid filled
breasts.
8] The Peaceful Heart. Last but not least.
Stress is one of the greatest enemies to abundant and
vibrant health
Fostering inner peace in whatever way you can is one
of the hall marks of good breast health and a balanced
hormonal system
7] LOOKING AFTER YOUR BREASTS AND SELF BREAST EXAMINATION:
Early detection of breast lumps is vital to the health
of the breast and to general overall health. Breast
tissue constantly changes according to the menstrual
cycle.
HOW TO DO IT:
1]
VISUAL:
Stand in front of them mirror with your breast exposed.
Visually examine your breast and note any changes. Does
one breast look any different to the other? Note skin
and nipple changes or discharge. Inspect your breast
in 4 steps a] Arms at the sides. b] Arms overhead. c]
Hands on your hips pressing firmly to flex your chest
muscles. d] Bending forward.
2] PHYSICAL:
a] Lying down place a pillow under your right shoulder.
Place your right hand under your head.
Using the first two/three finger pads of your opposite
hand begin to palpate your breast.
Start at the nipple and work your way around the breast
expanding the circle outwards and including the under
arm area.
Use 3 different kinds of strokes. Light medium and firm
over each area of the breast. The deeper stoke is done
by pressing deeper into towards the rib cage. B] Standing
up (this can be done under the shower) raise your right
arm and with soapy or fingers oiled with almond oil
check both breasts as you have done lying down.
3] MENTAL: In a relaxed state allow your mind scan the
inside of your breasts. Is there any pain, sensation,
anything different or unusual? Mentally explore your
breasts for whatever images you can experience, sensations
colors, and temperatures. Become totally familiar with
your breasts for an inner perspective.
BREAST CARE - THE NATURAL ALTERNATIVE.
Our breasts are full of lymph nodes and tubes that carry
white blood cells called lymphocytes.
These clean the breast of waste product, impurities,
viruses, infections and cancer cells. The lymphatic
system is densely interwoven into the breast tissue.
In breast cancer the lymph nodes are usually those first
involved.
Doing gentle lymphatic massage around the breast area
is vital to ensure that the breasts are drained on a
regular basis.
~ Excellent way to ensure breast health throughout a
woman's life.
~ Self-breast massage allows for the waste product in
the lymphatic fluid to be discharged fully.
~ It allows clean and vita blood to flood the area.
~ It stimulates the entire endocrine system via working
on the energy meridians of the body. Thus providing
the entire system with a charge up!
~ Stimulates balancing our delicate female hormones.
~ PMS, mood swings, menstrual cycle breast tenderness,
pain, cysts and fluid retention, menstrual irregularities
all will be affected positively by regular breast massage.
~ Keeps us in contact with our breasts. The strokes
of the massage allow us to check for lumps accessing
early detection.

Leading By Example: By Jenni Madison!
Knowing
who you are - being who you are - and doing what you
love.
My experience and research has shown that leading by
example is about living an authentic life - and finding
our highest form of self-expression. I have also found
that for many women, including my self and my personal
journey, that these are very powerful words and statements.
And so I have questioned, what do they really mean?
How do I do this in a practical and successful way?
And for most why would I want to be anything other than
my real and authentic self?
Where leadership was once a paradigm of control and
authority, of telling people what to do, and creating
followers, we have now evolved to a place where we are
seeking to find our own meaning, value, purpose and
personal mission, and then from here our individual
way of expressing this. We are becoming leaders of ourselves
and embracing a more feminine role by trusting our intuition,
caring for something bigger than ourselves, and developing
our work and business as vehicles of this authentic
heartfelt expression. From here we then serve, collaborate
and partner with others in a shared vision that aligns
with and contributes to our personal values, purpose
and passions for life.
Living by our core values - from the inside out.
So why would we not be who we truly are, why follow
or hide rather than lead? Why not trust ourselves, express
our inner world, our passions, and gifts? The answer
is fear, fear of not being enough even though we know
we are worthy, fear of not succeeding even though we
know we are smart, and fear of being exposed even though
our real strength is in our vulnerability.
In a positive light these fears are an opportunity to
take our work and our selves to the next level. In this
process we conquer our own demons, and master our selves
- is that not leading by example? What greater gift
can we give to others than an example of courage like
this? And so it is worthwhile to befriend our fears
as they may very well be an integral ingredient within
our recipe for success, fulfillment, self-expression
and a much more enriched inner and outer life.
To value a tangible product is often determined by the
market, depending on the economy, interest rates, and
other influences out of our control, it may go up and
it may go down. To value ourselves, our inner treasure,
our worth and our passionate expression is most challenging
for many of us, as what can determine its value?
As women and as leaders, to honour the feminine part
of ourselves is to reveal our inner world - our world
of insight, intuition, wisdom, and inner strength. Think
about some of the most difficult, even painful experiences
you have had in life, did your intuition advise you
otherwise?
Authentic-leadership
To appreciate the life that you have and love the work
that you do means being who you are and expressing your
passions in a way that makes a difference, adds value
and creates desired results for yourself and others.
Our most successful and inspirational leaders are those
that really put themselves, their heart and their core
into the work that they do, it becomes their service
to others and is one of the greatest examples of leadership
I have seen.
I have found that leading by example is to be aligned
with our own core values, from here we are naturally
honouring our inner world - we are rich on the inside
and as we express, in creativity and in action - our
service and business offering, we attract that richness
on the outside. We are naturally giving to others.
Knowing
Discover what makes your soul sing with delight and
passion, in here you will find your gift.
Being
Trust yourself, your own inner guide and intuition it
is your biggest asset.
Doing
Take purposeful action that is in alignment with your
values and focus on giving your gift.
Stay connected and take the journey within to know yourself
and find your inner gift, purpose and authentic expression,
show the world who you really are and do what you are
here to do.....that is leading by example.

Misleading
Food Labels Feed Obesity Problem:By Great Ideas in Nutrition!
Are
we being tricked into eating too much by the major snack
food brands?
Misleading labels on snacks that look like one serve
but are in fact in multi-serve packs has sparked a worrying
trend that is not helping our health, according to dietitian
and author of Portion Perfection - A visual weight control
plan, Amanda Clark Adv APD.
"Some nutrition information panels trick us into thinking
they are single serves, but when you look closely, the
fine print tells us there is more than one serve in
there," said Mrs Clark. "Most of us usually eat the
entire pack because it looks like a single serve, but
this could be too much for our energy needs."
Cadbury recently reduced its 250g block to 200g, in
a move applauded by Mrs Clark. "This new size is still
too much to be consumed by one person in one day, but
it is a positive step towards providing appropriate
portion-sized packs. Usually we don't notice when we
have 20 percent more or less so 20 percent less will
help."
"A single serve should contain 100 Calories for weight
loss and 200 Calories for weight maintenance for Australian
men, women and children, said Mrs Clark.
Beware of these popular snack foods that include multiple
serves in one small pack: " A small 70g bag of Cadbury
Boost mini bites contains 2.8 serves, but how do you
divide the 9 pieces in the pack between 2.8 serves?
" A 45g pack of Maltesers contains 1.8 serves per pack
and 125 Calories per serve which means 225 Calories
per pack.
" A 90g pack of Red Rock Deli, Deli Style Potato Chips
contains 3.2 serves per pack and 136 Calories per serve
- that's 435 Calories per pack.
" A 300g tub of Gippsland Dairy yoghurt (mango and passionfruit
twist 94% fat free) looks like a single serve but actually
contains 3 serves per tub, each with 160 Calories per
serve.
" A 45g pack of Natural Confectionary Company Chews
Fruity Mix contains 1.8 serves per pack and 97 Calories
per serve.
"If you intend to eat the entire pack, you need to multiply
the number of Calories by the number of serves per pack
to work out how many Calories you are having," said
Amanda Clark.
"To make it easier, snack foods should be packaged in
single serves or clearly state the number of serves
in whole numbers like on a 12 pack of mini Mars Bars."
"There are many food brands that do provide snacks in
the right portion sizes, packaged in single serves and
we really congratulate them for helping us eat the right
amount," said Mrs Clark.
Portion Perfection is a visual weight control plan that
shows you exactly the right amount to eat if you want
to lose or maintain weight. It includes everyday and
occasional foods (such as treats like chocolate or wine)
and spells out just how much to eat for various age
groups. It has hundreds of pictures showing popular
packaged foods, including almost every brand of yoghurt,
cereal, muesli bar and crisps available in Australia,
as well as common take-away foods. There's also a Portion
Perfection plate and bowl to help you serve up the right
amount. All the Portion Perfection products are available

Happy Feet Foot Patches: Put
A Smile On Your Feet!
Foot patches are a simple non-invasive and natural way
to detox your body. They simply warm up and stimulate
the soles of your feet. Simple yet effective, foot patches
are based on the principles of Eastern medicine, which
teaches that toxins move away from the heart and towards
the extremities of the body where toxins accumulate.
In traditional Chinese medicine the feet are regarded
as a mirror of internal health. Simply place one patch
on each foot at bedtime. You might be surprised to find
that a clean, white patch can become soggy, wet and
black. After using the patches for a period of time
they will start to become dryer as there will be less
to be absorbed.
Try
Happy Feet foot patches and sleep through your detox.
